HAMILTON 32 HILLCREST 14
COACH T. RUBIN'S GAME REPORT
Written by Coach Thurston Rubin, Aug. 25, 2008
"My hat goes off to the coaching staff at Hillcrest, for playing a hard fought game to end. Those guys came out game ready and they played us hard. We started the game kind of flat, however: the more we played the more confident the guys became. This is a group of young men that I believe has the chance to do something special this season. They play together and they don't get down on each other, they just keep on figthing and I'm proud of them for that. We're an extremely young team, but we have a lot of fight, and we are going to make some great strides this year. The leadership and backing of our New Administritive team has the team and the school, motivated to be the best, and that helps a lot. Darrly Grey throw for three TD's while controlling the offense. Fred "Duck" Davis caugth 2TD's. Lonnie "Trey" Ballentine had 1TD and 1 Int while Justine "SupaDude" Neal had 1 Int for a score. My defensive coordinator/asst. Head Coach Teran Conley, sparked the game with that Wildpack Defense hunting the QB all night that gave us the edge and two scores on defense. Justin Neal and Deshon Maxwell both had scores on defense. All-in-all we played team ball that give us that first victory 32-14 over Hillcrest. We are keeping God First, staying Humble and Hungy, and we will be fine this year.

Coach Pleased with Progress
August 20, 2008 story by LC
It's showtime for the Hamilton Wildcats football team as they embark on a season in which they hope to showcase all the hardwork they've put in this summer. Head coach Thurston Rubin gave us his assesment of where he feels the team stands right now. The team kicks off the season this Saturday when they take on Hillcrest in the "Bridges Kick Off Classic" at Whitehaven Stadium. The kickoff is 3:00 pm.
Said Coach Rubin, "Man we are looking good, I feel very confident that we will make great strides and have a winning season this year.
Some key note parts of the Jamboree were, Lonnie "trey" Ballentine won the defenseive MVP for our game vs. Cordova. He had two pass break-ups and three tackles at the safety position. Justin "SuperDude" Neal showed his 4.39 speed as he locked down each of Cordova's Recievers. Fred "Duck" Davis had 2 catches for 75yds and 1TD. Matavious "Big Huff" Johnson had 3 pancake blocks anchoring the offensenive line. Winfred "Blade" Ross was all over the field on defense he had two solo tackles for loses and he cause a fumble. Darrell Gray and Dennis Rubin Jr. shared time at the QB position, with Darrell finishing the day 3-5 for 105 yds passing. Overall we accomplished the major points during the game, however we have to get better on our special teams, we missed our extra point to tie the game. The end score was 7 to 6 cordova. We are looking forward to having you film the games this year we will be at Whithaven to march from the New Prinicpal (Micheal Bates) house to the stadium at 1:00pm saturday 8/23/08."
So Wildcat fans, let's get out and support the team this season. It's shaping up to be an exciting year of football. It's SHOWTIME.
Coach Rubin Setting High Standards
Looking for Major Improvement

Third year head coach Thurston Rubin is determined to bring back the championship days at Hamilton. The Wildcats are coming off a 2 win season, but Coach Rubin is very optimistic about next season. "We have a lot of returning starters from last years team". "The kids fought hard every game last year, but we were extremely young". "I expect us to make a considerable improvement the coming season".
Coach Rubin is taking steps to increase the visibility of the program, thus giving the players, fans and all Hamilton supporters more reason to tune in to what he feels will be a good season. "We want to return Hamilton back to elite status". "We are doing things to get the community back involved, such as our players reaching out to elderly and the sick to cut lawns and more". Coach indicated that the Wildcats are returning 6 freshman starters from last year's squad. "Our senior class is showing great leadership". "We expect our guys to participate in our conditioning program to improve speed, strength and mental toughness".

"We have assembled an excellent coaching staff to work with these young players". We have prospects such as Lonnie Ballentine, a 6'3 185 So. to be who has been graded as one of the top freshman prospects in the country. He was invited to Atlanta for the "Ultimate 100 Freshmen". We expect good competition at the QB position as three guys will compete, Dennis Rubin Jr. (So.), Darryl Grey (Jr.) and Calvin Williams (So.). "We're putting God first and coming together as a team". "We're instilling five basic principles Hardwork, Dedication, Discipline, Commitment and Sacrifice", if they do that, we will be successful on the field and in life". We wanna revive south Memphis as a whole".
